How Can I Make My Hair Color Last Longer?

🌈 How Can I Make My Hair Color Last Longer?

This is by far the number one question we get. And since it's such a hot topic, we won’t leave you in the dark. The good news? There’s a lot you can do to make your color last longer. So open those ears (or eyes 👀) and listen up!

1️⃣ Hair structure matters

Everyone’s hair is different. Your personal hair structure affects how long color (let’s say, red) sticks around.

Also important: your current color routine.
If you stick to the same shade and dye it regularly, the color builds up and lasts longer than if you constantly switch shades.

👉 Fun fact: Color lasts longer on bleached hair than on natural blonde hair. The lighter your hair is bleached beforehand, the bolder the result, but that also comes at a cost for your hair health.

2️⃣ Product buildup: the silent color killer

If your hair still has residue from styling or care products—or silicones from shampoo—the color can’t bond properly.

💡 Solution: Wash your hair before dyeing with a clarifying shampoo.

Otherwise, the result can look uneven or too faint.
❌ Also avoid mixing your dye with conditioner or hair masks. That dilutes the pigment and leads to patchy, short-lived results. In the end, you’ll use more dye, not less.

3️⃣ Beware the shampoo villain!

A major enemy of your colorful mane is the wrong shampoo.
❌ Stay away from anti-dandruff or volumizing shampoos.
✅ Use a color-safe shampoo: your local drugstore has tons to choose from.

4️⃣ Go easy on heat & washing

Heat is no friend to bright hair. Avoid blow dryers and flat irons when possible.

Also, the water temperature matters!
Use cool water to preserve color and protect your scalp.

Too much washing fades color fast.
No, you don’t need to shampoo every day—even if you feel like it, you can use:

  • Less shampoo

  • Mild cleansing formulas

  • Dry shampoo (try skipping 1–2 washes)

  • Just shampooing your roots!

🔁 Always finish with a cold rinse to seal the cuticle and lock in color.

5️⃣ Summer fade: it’s a thing!

Noticed your vibrant hair fades faster in summer? Blame the sun. ☀️
UV rays and heat accelerate fading. But you can fight back:

  • Wear a cute hat 😎

  • Use hair UV protection spray

Also:
⚠ Saltwater strips pigment.
⚠ Chlorine water? Total horror story. 😱

In short:
Stay cool, stay protected, and stay colorful! 🌈✨
